Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

437 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will consider purchasing the premises presently occupied by Gaelscoil an Ghoirt Álainn; if so, if this will be done shortly; the plans, if any, he has to renovate it in view of its unsatisfactory condition and the fact that it is attended by 156 local school children; and when he will make a decision in view of the request being made by the owner of the premises to have the school vacate the premises without further delay in view of the delays experienced in reaching a decision on its future ownership. [7354/98]

My Department has engaged a quantity surveyor to provide an estimated cost of refurbishing the premises currently occupied by Gaelscoil an Ghoirt Álainn. This will assist my Department in determining if the future accommodation needs of the school can be met in the premises currently occupied by the school. This decision will be made shortly. The school management is aware of the position.

I can assure the Deputy that the issue will be progressed without delay.
