Vol. 489 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

107 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will direct that income limits be raised so that realistic limits can apply to local authority housing purchase loans in view of property prices in Dublin and the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W. [7555/98]

The shared ownership scheme, to which this case apparently relates, is available to certain categories of applicant, including approved applicants for local authority housing and local authority tenants and tenant purchasers who are surrendering their houses, without reference to an income limit. The income limit which applies in the case of other categories of applicant was last increased in November 1997.

The operation of the income limit in any particular case is a matter for the local authority. The limit applies to earnings in the preceding, rather than the current, income tax year.
