Vol. 489 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computerisation Programme.

Billy Timmins

Question:

67 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a computer or computers to a primary school (details supplied) in County Wicklow in view of the fact that the school does not have this facility at present. [7487/98]

There is a commitment under the technology integration initiative in Schools IT 2000 — A Policy Framework for the New Millennium that all first and second level schools will be assisted by my Department in supplying at least one multimedia computer system with Internet access this year. Telecom Éireann has also agreed to supply each school with a multimedia computer system and expect to achieve this level of provision by September 1998. All schools will therefore receive multimedia PCs from Telecom Éireann and from the Department of Education and Science.
