Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Billy Kelleher

Question:

103 Mr. Kelleher asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the proposals, if any, her Department has received from Irish Rail regarding the reopening of the railway line from Youghal or Midleton, County Cork to Kent Station, Cork city; and the European funding, if any, available for these projects. [8002/98]

All railway operational matters, including those related to the reopening of railway lines, are the responsibility of Iarnród Éireann. I have no statutory responsibility for such matters and I have received no proposals regarding the reopening of the line in question. However, I have asked CIE to prepare an assessment of the public transport situation in Cork for my consideration.

All funding under existing EU programmes is already committed and, there are, therefore, no moneys available for projects of this type at present.
