Vol. 491 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Austin Currie

Question:

89 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs whether, in view of the work of an organisation (details supplied) in Dublin 20 in the local community of Palmerstown, he will make funding available to it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12407/98]

My Department operates a range of grant schemes which concentrate on a wide range of support for local self-help groups, community development, welfare rights and information work, and on the provision of seed money to enable community groups to pilot initiatives identified as meeting new emerging community needs.

The 1998 grants schemes were advertised extensively in the national and local newspapers in February. The closing date for receipt of completed applications was 12 March 1998.

My Department has not received an application for funding under the 1998 grants schemes operated by my Department from the group in question. The group is welcome to apply for funding, when the grants schemes are announced early next year, towards the cost of activities that come within the remit of the schemes.

However, on the basis of the information made available by the Deputy, the particular request would not come within the remit of the grants schemes operated by my Department.
