Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Residency Permits.

Ulick Burke

Question:

248 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when his Department will grant residency to a person (details supplied) in County Galway who has requested this and wants to have Irish citizenship established in view of the fact that she has been living here for approximately ten years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12827/98]

The person who is the subject of the Deputy's query applied for residency in the State on 15 May last to her local registration officer, the Garda Síochána. The person is the spouse of an EU national living in Ireland and would thus have a right to reside here subject only to restrictions on grounds of public policy, public security or public health. The application is being forwarded to my Department for decision which should be given in a matter of days.

My Department has no record of an application for citizenship on behalf of this person. If she wishes to pursue this matter she should contact the citizenship division of my Department to seek the necessary application form.
