Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Jack Wall

Question:

220 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí in each station in County Kildare; and, if stations are not fully manned, if he will provide funding to rectify this situation. [13657/98]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas, that County Kildare forms part of the Carlow-Kildare Garda Division. They have expressed concern, and I share that concern, about providing the kind of detailed information sought by the Deputy on the grounds of security and in the interests of crime prevention generally. I propose, therefore, to provide the information on a district basis.

It should be noted that Rathcoole Garda station was transferred from the Naas district of the Carlow-Kildare Garda Division to the DMA West Garda Division on 23 March 1998.
The Garda authorities have informed me that they are satisfied with the present policing arrangements for County Kildare and that the best use is being made of current policing resources. However, they have assured me that as additional personnel become available for allocation the needs of the Carlow-Kildare Division will be fully considered in conjunction with the needs of all other Garda Divisions.
