Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Offices.

Bernard Allen

Question:

19 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason his Department has closed its office at Cork Airport. [13314/98]

The Department's office at Cork Airport has not closed.

Under the EU single market, Cork Airport is an internal frontier post and as such a permanent presence by Department of Agriculture and Food staff is not required. Such a presence is required only in the designated EU border inspection posts dealing with imports from non-EU countries.

However, as is the case with all other airports and ports in Ireland, full departmental cover is provided in the event of the import-export of live animals.
