The draft heads of a Bill to place the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage on a statutory basis, as part of a package of proposals for strengthening the protection of the architectural heritage recently announced by myself and my colleague, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Deputy Dempsey, have been referred to the Attorney General's Office for drafting of the Bill. The inventory is currently being carried out on a non-statutory basis by Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department. I expect to publish the Bill in the autumn.
