Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cable Television Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

166 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether her Department has at any time awarded a franchise for piped TV reception in Celbridge, County Kildare; if so, if she has satisfied herself that the service and reception available to consumers is in accordance with the terms and conditions laid down in a contract; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15964/98]

The franchise for the provision of cable television services in Celbridge, County Kildare is held by Cable Management Ireland under a licence granted in 1975 under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts.

The licensing powers under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts, which include matters such as the quality of service provided, were transferred to the Director of Telecommunications Regulation in the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996. I have no function in relation to these matters.
