Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Denis Naughten

Question:

353 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the cost of providing a sewerage scheme at Castlerea Place of Detention, County Roscommon; the commencement and completion dates of this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19470/98]

A sewerage treatment plant has been installed at Castlerea Prison, County Roscommon. It was necessary to provide this plant as the old existing plant, which previously served the hospital, was partially defunct and totally inadequate for the needs of the new prison.

A contract was awarded on 9 April 1998 in the amount of £220,227.25 inclusive of VAT for the provision of a new sewerage treatment plant for the prison. The plant was brought into use on 24 September 1998 and commissioning of the system will continue up to 23 October 1998.
