221 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to provide for the extension of the community mothers' scheme as recommended by the report of the Commission on the Family; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20007/98]
I am currently awaiting the report on "A Seven Year Follow-up Study of a Randomised Control Trial of Non-Professional Intervention in Parenting" carried out by the community mothers programme in the Eastern Health Board. On examination of the findings of the report and taking into account funding available to me in 1999, I will consider the extension of the community mothers programme in consultation with the health boards.
