Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

380 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí assigned to Carbury Garda station, County Kildare; if he has satisfied himself that there is a sufficient number of gardaí assigned to this station to cater for the growing population; the plans, if any, he has to assign additional gardaí to this station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23510/98]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the current strength of Carbury Garda station is one sergeant and one garda. I understand, however, that the assigned sergeant is, at present, on temporary transfer to Naas since 2 November 1998 but is expected to return to Carbury in the very near future.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that the local divisional officer is satisfied with the present level of policing in Carbury sub-district. I understand in this regard that regular patrols by mobile units from Newbridge and Kildare Garda stations and also the divisional traffic corps in Naas augment local patrolling.
