Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Teaching Qualifications.

Ulick Burke

Question:

439 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has satisfied himself that adequate opportunity is provided by his Department to allow teachers at second level to train in proper management techniques; if the will offer those appointed time out to acquire access to management courses; and if his Department will provide training in view of the complexities of modern school management. [23736/98]

As I indicated in a recent reply to a parliamentary question in this area, a substantial programme of in-service training for principals and other teachers in management positions in schools has been funded by my Department for some time now and my Department will continue to promote and fund a high level of training in this area.

I also indicated that, in addition, my Department will shortly be reviewing the programme of courses being provided with a view to increasing the effectiveness of the programme.
