Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Public Order.

Dan Neville

Question:

348 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the measures, including the sitting of a special District Court after Christmas introduced in recent years to ensure law and order in Rathkeale, County Limerick, will be introduced for Christmas 1998. [24744/98]

I have requested to make a ministerial order, as provided for in section 26 (1)(f) of the Courts of Justice Act, 1953, for the holding of a special sitting of the District Court at Rathkeale, County Limerick, on 28 December 1998 and I intend to make an order providing for same.

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that the policing arrangements for Rathkeale this Christmas will be the same as those put in place for previous years. An inspector will have responsibility for overseeing policing arrangements in the area over the Christmas period.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that they are satisfied that these arrangements will be sufficient to ensure an adequate service to the public over the Christmas period.
