Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Billy Timmins

Question:

335 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has satisfied himself with the directive issued by his Department in 1996 in relation to planning guidelines for the erection of mobile phone masts; and, if not, the action, if any, he has taken or will take in this regard. [27612/98]

I assume the question relates to the planning guidelines on telecommunications antennae and support structures issued by my Department in July 1996. These are intended to assist both planning authorities and An Bord Pleanala as well as operators of mobile telecommunications services and the general public by providing guidance on dealing with applications for planning permission for telecommunications antennae and support structures. As it has not been shown that these guidelines are defective in any respect, I do not propose to change them at this stage.
