Vol. 498 No. 6

Written Answers - Motor Fuels.

David Stanton

Question:

58 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to reports of large differences in petrol prices; if so, if she will give details in this regard; the action, if any, she will take as a result; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28232/98]

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 54 on 25 November 1998. The position remains as outlined in that reply. In the absence of a regime of statutory price control, there is no official information available on prices obtaining in the market. I am, however, aware of reports of differences in petrol prices and in this context would highlight the requirement that petrol retailers should display their prices in accordance with the terms of the Retail Price (Diesel and Petrol) Display Order, 1997.
