Phil Hogan

Question:

128 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary finance in 1999 to commence work on the extension to St. Ciaran's boys national school, Ballyragget, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3110/99]

The manager of St. Ciaran's boys national school, Ballyragget has applied to my Department for grant aid towards the cost of additional ancillary accommodation at the school.

My Department's building unit has sought a report in the matter from the local Office of Public Works. When this report is received, a decision will be taken on the provision of grant assistance for the proposed works.

Question:

129 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding to scoil náisiúnta Mhuire Naofa (details supplied) in order that new general purpose and computer rooms will be included in the extension plan for the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3111/99]

Scoil náisiúnta Mhuire Naofa recently applied to my Department to alter the accommodation brief of the proposed extension at the school which is in architectural planning. The case will be reviewed in the light of the recent request and my Department will be in contact with the school in the matter.

Question:

130 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has considered the provision of an enlarged physical education hall for the amalgamated schools of Slieverue and Ferrybank, County Kilkenny; and when a decision will be made in this regard. [3112/99]

The proposed new post primary school at Ferrybank is progressing through architectural planning. The schedule of accommodation for the new school includes provision of a standard physical education hall of 393 square metres.

A review of the area norms for second level schools is ongoing within my Department. Any changes that may result from this review will be incorporated into projects currently being planned.
