The sum of £192,000 – capital – in 1998 represents a contribution towards the cost of a new respite care centre at Ballindine, County Mayo. In 1999 provision has been made for an on-going revenue grant of £20,000 to the Western Alzheimer Foundation for this respite care centre.

John Bruton

Question:

300 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will allocate the small amount of funding sought by the Louth and Meath branch of the Spina Bifida Association (details supplied) in order that it can upgrade its holiday home in Clogherhead which is used by spina bifida sufferers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4837/99]

The provision of funding for health services provided by voluntary agencies to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the health boards. I understand that the North-Eastern Health Board has made available a grant of £2,500 to the Louth-Meath branch of the Irish Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus for the facility at Clogherhead referred to in the Deputy's question.
