Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Bernard Allen

Question:

114 Mr. Allen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 93 of 9 February 1999 regarding an extension of contracts after three years of participation in job initiative schemes operated by FÁS, the general principle blocking participation after three years has ever been waived in individual cases; if so, the circumstances in which it was waived; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6004/99]

Job Initiative is a three year pilot programme which is not due to finish until the end of 1999. As such the question of participants remaining on the programme beyond three years has not arisen. An independent review of the pilot programme is due to be carried out shortly and any policy decisions regarding the programme, including decisions regarding its long-term future, will not be taken until this report is to hand.
