Vol. 501 No. 5
91 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons who have house reconstruction loans from local authorities. [6564/99]
93 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons that have house purchase loans from local authorities. [6566/99]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 91 and 93 together.
92 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some borrowers who have house purchase loans from local authorities are paying up to 12.5 per cent per annum on those loans; and the steps, if any, he will take to reduce the interest rates being charged to more realistic levels in view of the fact that mortgages can now be obtained where the interest rate charge is as low as 5 per cent. I refer the Deputy to my reply to Priority Question No. 5 of 28 January 1999.
