Vol. 501 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Jim Higgins

Question:

120 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will appoint a sergeant to a Garda station (details supplied) where there has been a vacancy for more than four months. [6568/99]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me the position of sergeant in charge of the Garda station referred to by the Deputy has been vacant since 28 October 1998.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that when members of sergeant rank next become available, the filling of the sergeant vacancy at this station will be fully considered in conjunction with the filling of similar vacancies throughout the country.
