Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

294 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the inquiries, if any, into the safety aspect of the proposed port tunnel in view of a recent British court case involving the engineering company involved with the proposed tunnel; if he will give assurances that all safety concerns will be examined thoroughly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7243/99]

A public local inquiry into all matters relating to the Dublin Port tunnel mOtorway scheme, 1998, commenced on 2 March 1999. When the public inquiry is completed the persons who chaired the inquiry will submit a report to me, which I must consider, together with the environmental impact statement, and the submissions made, before making a determination.

In view of my quasi-judicial role in the process, it would not be appropriate to comment on specific issues coming before the inquiry.
