Vol. 503 No. 5

Written Answers. - Student Accommodation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

127 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science when the rules and regulations regarding the location of accommodation specified in section 50 of the Finance Act, 1999, relating to the provision of certain student accommodation for the year will be published. [10635/99]

Section 50 of the Finance Act, 1999, introduced into the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, a scheme of tax relief for rented residential accommodation for third level students. Under this scheme, a house or apartment shall not qualify for the tax incentives in question unless it complies with guidelines issued by my Department in consultation with the Minister for the Environment and Local Government and with the consent of the Minister for Finance.

These guidelines will be published in the near future and I will forward a copy to the Deputy as soon as they are available.
