Question:

271 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding a request from Mother of Divine Grace national school, Dublin 11, for a resource teacher for pupils with special needs; when the application was made; if he will grant the application in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10745/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 258 and 271 together.

I understand the case in question was originally brought to the attention of a member of my Department's inspectorate in the context of the child's commencing her attendance at the school in September last.

Following a review of the needs of this child and a number of other special needs children attending the school, my Department's inspectorate has recently made recommendations for the allocation of additional resources to the school to cater for the needs of the children in question.

My Department will be in touch with the school in the near future to arrange for the delivery of the necessary additional supports.
