Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Funding.

Richard Bruton

Question:

263 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many schools have not received any circular regarding funding of renovations and buildings; and if circulars will be promptly issued to schools in order that they can undertake the necessary planning in view of the fact that his Department issued a listing of various circulars which it claimed had been sent to schools but were not received. [10684/99]

In June 1998 my Department issued a manual on maintenance and building matters to the principals and chairpersons of the boards of management of all primary schools. Included in the manual was a copy of the grants scheme for minor works to primary schools, which had previously issued to all schools in May 1996. It is intended to issue a similar manual to all post-primary schools.

The planning and building unit of my Department processes applications in respect of projects outside the scope of the devolved grant scheme or the scheme of capitation grants and advises schools on all matters relating to the initiation, architectural planning and funding of approved projects.
