Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Jack Wall

Question:

288 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reasons a person (details supplied) in County Kildare was transferred from Mountjoy jail to the Central Mental Hospital; on whose instruction was the transfer made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11401/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy was committed from the High Court to Mountjoy prison on 12 July 1982 for contempt of court. The High Court directed that a psychiatric report be prepared and furnished as soon as possible. He was brought to the Central Mental Hospital for assessment on the 13 July 1982 and was returned to Mountjoy prison on the same day. He appeared in the High Court again on 15 July 1982 to purge his contempt and was released from custody.
