Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tourism Industry.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

311 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the importance of smaller regional airports for the tourism industry in Ireland; the number of tourists that arrive by Shannon, Cork and Dublin airports; the number that arrive by ferry; the number arriving into regional airports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11778/99]

While the development of competitive and regular access links to our main tourist markets is an important element of national tourism policy, overall responsibility for air transport policy rests with my colleague, the Minister for Public Enterprise.

The statistical information sought by the Deputy falls within the day-to-day activities of the Central Statistics Office and Bord Fáilte and is not a matter for which I have direct responsibility.
