Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

135 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if reports of the issuing of false Irish visas by the honorary consul in a country (details supplied) are correct; if fees were received for these visas; and the action, if any, he is taking to cancel the visas and refund the fees. [12773/99]

In the period of ten years that the Honorary Consul, who resigned a year ago, assisted the Department of Foreign Affairs in processing visa applications there was never any suggestion that he issued false visas.

A person with a Cork address wrote to me on 23 April stating that on a recent visit to the country concerned a number of allegations about the former Honorary Consul were made to her, including that he was removed from office due to the issuing of false visas. No information about the source or sources of the allegations was given. My Private Secretary replied on 27 April stating that the allegations were not correct.

If the Deputy has any evidence of false visas having been issued I will have it investigated.
