Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

137 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the state of readiness of her Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if she will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12590/99]

My Department has had in place for the last two years a programme to address systematically year 2000 issues. The programme for remedial work and testing of all hardware and software systems in my Department is now very well advanced and is due for completion by the end of July next. I have, therefore, a high degree of confidence in the ability of my Department to maintain its critical information technology systems into and beyond the year 2000.

I will shortly be issuing a statement on the up to date status of my Department's remedial programme and the corresponding level of readiness of my Department's computer systems for the year 2000.

Question:

138 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the state of readiness of his Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if he will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12591/99]

A comprehensive programme to ensure year 2000 compliance of hardware and software is nearing completion in the Department of Defence. The target date for achieving compliance for the Department's systems is 31 July 1999.

The date of 31 July is also the target date for achieving compliance for the majority of the Defence Forces critical and non-critical systems.

All remaining Defence Forces systems will be compliant on various dates after 31 July, with the compliance programme due to be fully completed by 31 October, 1999. Statements of compliance will issue in due course.
