Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

210 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children the state of readiness of his Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if he will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12594/99]

My Department has been working on year 2000 remedial work for some time and I am confident that internally developed systems, including both hardware and software, will be compliant by our target date of July of this year. With regard to externally produced software we are satisfied that most of these products will be compliant by that time. If compliance is not achieved by that date, alternative contingency strategies will be enacted. I do not envisage any significant problems at this stage. The departmental website contains summary information on the position and we will keep this updated until total compliance has been achieved.
