Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Geriatric Care.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

224 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the proposals, if any, he has to locate long-stay geriatric patients from the Rathgormack, Clonea-Power area of County Waterford in Dungarvan rather than in Cashel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12772/99]

I have been advised by the South-Eastern Health Board that services for older persons in the Rathgormack Clonea-Power area is provided through the catchment area of south Tipperary; acute medical services are provided in St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, and long-stay care is provided in St. Patrick's Hospital, Cashel, County Tipperary.

The board also advises that long-stay accommodation has been provided for people from the area in St. Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan in response to the needs of individual families and where accommodation was available.
