Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ground Rents.

Austin Deasy

Question:

301 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position concerning the ground rent payment system; if it has been terminated or restrictions imposed concerning the charging of new rents and ground rents brought in many years ago; and, in particular, the position regarding ground rents being charged (details supplied) in Lismore Park and Lismore Lawn in Waterford city. [13026/99]

I have already informed the House on a number of occasions, and most recently in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 71 of 5 May 1999, of the position on ground rents. I have nothing further to add to my previous replies, at this stage, other than to say that the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) Act, 1978, prevented the creation of new ground rents on dwelling houses.

I could not undertake to comment by way of reply to a question on the position regarding ground rents being charged in a particular case.
