Vol. 505 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Michael O'Kennedy

Question:

125 Mr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will inquire into the circumstances of a Garda search at the home of a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary in September 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the embarrassment and humiliation caused to the person concerned. [14089/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the gardaí, on foot of a search warrant, searched a farm and outbuildings belonging to the person named by the Deputy from 19 September 1998 to 22 September 1998, inclusive without any evidence of unlawful activity being uncovered. I further understand that the person in question has made a complaint regarding the conduct of this search operation which is being investigated by the Garda superintendent at Kilaloe, County Clare.
