Vol. 505 No. 7

Written Answers. - Animal Identification Tags.

Michael Ring

Question:

53 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason it takes 15 working days for euro tags to be issued from his Department in Tipperary in view of the fact that tags are urgently required by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [14678/99]

As eartags are herd and animal specific, they must be made to order for each herdowner. For this reason, the contract which my Department has with Eurotags for the supply of tags in respect of 1999 provides that a period of up to 15 working days is allowed for the supply of tags. Herdowners were advised in the several notices issued by my Department to order their tags in good time and to allow three weeks for delivery.

The information available to my Department indicates that in the case referred to, tags were issued by Eurotags on 31 May 1999. The order form submitted in respect of these tags was dated 20 May 1999 and was received in Eurotags on 24 May 1999.
