Vol. 505 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rural Renewal Scheme.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

57 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in issuing guidelines to the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the Revenue Commissioners for the pilot rural renewal scheme for the renovation of derelict and old houses; and when these guidelines will be issued in view of the fact many persons cannot commence their renovations until this information is provided. [14620/99]

I have been informed by officials from my Department that they have had discussions recently with officials from the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the Revenue Commissioners when they agreed on procedures to be followed by applicants who are considering the commencement of refurbishment work on qualified property in the areas designated under the rural renewal scheme. The Revenue Commissioners are also preparing a comprehensive leaflet covering both the tax reliefs available under the scheme and the application process to be adhered to by applicants. The Revenue Commissioners have assured me that the explanatory leaflet will be published and distributed in the very near future.
