Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

231 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress to date on the request for travelling expenses to the parents of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [15760/99]

I understand that the pupil referred to by the Deputy was unable to avail of special transport provision and that his family made private transport arrangements for each morning that he attended school. Arrangements are being made in my Department for the payment of a transport grant in respect of the pupil referred to by the Deputy for the relevant period.

Transport grants, which are based on distance from home to school and on the level of school attendance, are generally paid at the end of the school year. I have asked my officials to issue the relevant application form to the school attended by the pupil, in order that the grant can be paid.
