Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - PCW Arrears.

Pat Carey

Question:

250 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have arrangements made to expedite the payment of back money to a member of staff who left the employment of Finglas Children's Centre and is being advised by the administrative staff at the centre that it may be September or October before they are in a position to pay her arrears; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15935/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy left the employment of Finglas children's centre on 5 December 1997. Under the terms of an agreement for her staff group, concluded in late 1998 under clause 2(iii) A of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, the person in question is due arrears of pay from 1 January 1996 until the last date of her employment at the centre.

It was agreed between the management of the centre and SIPTU, the union representing staff at the centre, that the arrears due under the PCW agreement would be paid to serving staff in the first instance and that former staff would be paid shortly thereafter. The final payments of arrears to serving staff will be made on 1 July 1999. The management of the centre has confirmed to my Department that arrears will issue to the person in question not later than the end of July 1999.
