Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Community Development Programme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

315 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if final approval has been given to a community development project for the Castlerea, Ballaghaderreen and Strokestown areas of County Roscommon; whether a decision has been taken on the location of this office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18967/99]

Partnership 2000 provides for the identification of 30 priority areas for the expansion of the community development programme. I have already announced details of the areas that have been identified.

As already announced, the Castlerea, Ballaghaderreen and Strokestown area of Roscommon has been approved in principle for a community development project.

The regional support agency for that area, the Midland Support Agency, will shortly commence development work with a view to the establishment of a community development project in the area, in consultation with local voluntary and community groups.

The precise location of the project's office is not a matter for my Department. This will be decided by the management committee of the project, once it has been brought together by the regional support agency.
