Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

John Perry

Question:

352 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 336 of 16 February 1999, the progress made regarding the refurbishment of Riverstown Garda station, County Sligo, following the inspection carried out by the Garda housing officer in May 1999; the consultations, if any, which have taken place since May 1999; if the work has been authorised; when it will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23269/99]

Following the inspection of Riverstown Garda station, County Sligo, by the Garda housing officer in May 1999, the Office of Public Works produced an estimate of substantial costs for the refurbishment of the existing station and official accommodation. Given the level of available financial resources allocated to major Garda refurbishment projects, consultation is ongoing with the Office of Public Works to determine the most economically advantageous option to provide an enhanced level of Garda accommodation at Riverstown.

Progress in relation to the above is ultimately dependent upon overall priorities within the Garda maintenance programme and, as a consequence, it is unlikely that there would be developments with respect to Riverstown in the near future.
