Vol. 511 No. 1

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

167 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress made regarding the provision of world class recording studios for performing artists as promised in An Action Programme for the Millennium; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23868/99]

Agreement, in principle, has been reached with the music industry to jointly fund a non-statutory music board to promote and develop the indigenous music industry as recommended in the FORTE report. It is envisaged that the board will be operational in early 2000. The board, when established, will be charged with drawing up a five year strategic plan for the industry, and the provision of infrastructure for the industry including world class recording studios for performing artists, will be among the many issues to be addressed by the board.
