Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Educational Projects.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

308 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will confirm approval of full funding, in view of the fact that the EU funding currently in tandem with departmental funding will run out at the end of 1999, for the highly successful project in disadvantaged areas of Clondalkin which has seen the number of second level students progressing to tertiary education increasing from 7.6% to 28.4% in 1999. [25963/99]

In the past week I have received a submission from the director of the Clondalkin higher education access project in which he seeks mainstream funding from my Department for the project. My Department at present part funds the project. I will consider this matter fully in the light of the submission made and having regard to the financial resources available to me for projects of this type and any other funding available.

I will communicate a decision to the director of the project as early as possible.
