Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

690 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when repair and renovation work will be carried out on a Garda station (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1935/00]

As current Garda accommodation at the location in question does not meet optimum standards for operational activities, I am pleased to state that it is planned to replace the existing Garda station with a new, purpose-built ‘basic unit'-type station. However, progress on the matter is dependent upon securing a suit able site in the locality, overall priorities within the Garda building programme and the availability of financial resources.

Nevertheless, in the interim, consideration is being given to a scheduling of some basic ‘bridging' maintenance works to the station and, to this end, the Office of Public Works has provided indicative costings for such development. It is not possible to provide a precise time frame for progress, however, as work at the location in question must be considered within the context of the priority maintenance requirements of the entire stock of Garda accommodation.
