Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Unemployment Levels.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

118 Mr. Lawlor asked the Taoiseach if he will provide the most recent available figure for people signing on as unemployed at the social welfare local office in Clondalkin, Dublin 22; and if this will be given in the context of the overall unemployment figure for Dublin. [2656/00]

In December 1999, there were 2,574 persons signing on the live register at the Clondalkin social welfare local office. The live register is not, however, designed to measure unemployment.

Statistics on employment and unemployment are calculated at regional level from the quarterly national household survey. In the June to August 1999 quarter, there were 24,900 persons unemployed in the Dublin region, representing an unemployment rate of 4.5%.
