Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

134 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the way in which the £50 million allocated in the national development plan for urban buses is to be spent; the expenditure, if any, proposed for Cork city buses; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2639/00]

The national development plan provides for an investment of £50 million for the upgrading of public transport in Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway. The investment will focus initially on improvements to bus services, including the purchase of 110 new buses for Bus Éireann's urban services. It will also allow for the upgrading of rail services on the Cork - Cobh and Cork - Mallow lines.

The details of the investment will be finalised with Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann over the coming months.
