Vol. 513 No. 5

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Denis Naughten

Question:

61 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to introduce regulations to prohibit the use of coloured spot lights, for example, the new trend of green and blue, on motorcars; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2932/00]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 105 on 26 January, 2000.

Sub-article 41(1)(a) of the Road Traffic (Lighting of Vehicles) regulations, 1963 already requires that a vehicle shall not be equipped with lighting which when lit shows any light at the front of the vehicle except a white or yellow light. The provision does not apply to direction indicators.
