Question:

105 Mr. Ardagh asked the Minister for Defence the number of non-hearing loss claims he has received; and the amount of compensation and costs paid to date in relation to these cases. [6560/00]

The number of personal injury claims received in my Department from 1989 to date is 2078. Expenditure including legal fees over the years was as follows: 1989 – £0.5 million; 1990 – £1.24 million; 1991 – £2.4 million; 1992 – £2.9 million; 1993 – £2.8 million; 1994 – £3.8 million; 1995 – £4.7 million; 1996 – £5.6 million; 1997 – £6.4 million; 1998 – £5.7 million; 1999 – £3 million; 2000 – £0.3 million to date.
