Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Michael Creed

Question:

137 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will allocate a suckler cow quota from the national reserve to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [6952/00]

The person named applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the year 2000 national reserve under category A.

This category was reserved for first time applicants under 35 years of age whose livestock unit level was at least ten but not greater than 30.

As the person named has 41.5 livestock units, he does not qualify for an allocation of quota under that category.

His application was then considered under category D. This category was reserved for applicants who did not qualify under the priority categories A, B or C. Because of the limited amount of quota available for distribution under category D, it is expected that all quota will be distributed to eligible farmers in this category who have less than ten livestock units. Because of this, there is insufficient quota available to enable an allocation to be made to him under this category either.
