Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Michael Ring

Question:

144 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for the old derelict site in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, where the Garda barracks used to be located in view of the fact that the building is an eyesore and a potential fire hazard; if the building will be knocked for safety purposes; and if the site will be sold or a new building erected particularly in view of the fire which was lit on the premises earlier in 2000. [6898/00]

It is proposed to build a new Garda area headquarters on the site of the old Garda station and married quarters at Ballinrobe, County Mayo in due course. The Commissioners of Public Works have taken measures to prevent unauthorised access to the old station building such as boarding of windows and doors. However, in light of repeated episodes of intrusion and vandalism, the Commissioners will now give urgent consideration to full or partial demolition of the building.
