Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Bay Reclamation.

Nora Owen

Question:

74 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources his views on an application under the Foreshore Acts, 1933 and 1992, to infill 52 acres of Dublin Bay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6651/00]

Liam Lawlor

Question:

79 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will provide information on the status of proposals to amend the Foreshore Acts, 1933 and 1992, with particular regard to infill proposals for Dublin Bay (details supplied). [6887/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 74 and 79 together.

The application by Dublin Port Company for permission under the Foreshore Acts, 1933 to 1998, to reclaim, for port purposes, an area of the company's own foreshore in Dublin port has being examined carefully by my Department in consultation with its specialist advisors and independent consultants.

The consultants were engaged to report inter alia on the adequacy of the EIS and, based on their report, my Department found that the EIS did not meet statutory requirements. Dublin Port Company has been advised that a new EIS which addresses the shortcomings outlined by the consultants and, as far as possible, the objections made to the proposal should be prepared. I would expect that the company will consult widely with local residents associations and other interested bodies in preparing this new EIS. When this is prepared and submitted for public consultation I will have my Department review the matter.
